Watching the ships come in to the Melbourne docks inspired Richard Lewer’s interest in their history, and eventually the history of the Painters & Dockers Union of the 60s, 70s and 80s, which were depicted – along with a cast of colourful characters – in a series of paintings on display in the Potter’s State of the Union exhibition, 2018.
