Performing Textiles was an exhibition of new work by students from the Victorian College of the Arts’ (VCA) Honours in Fine Arts (Visual Art) program held at the Potter in August 2019. Following a competitive selection process, ten student artists were chosen to develop work in response to a curatorial theme focussing on the interconnection between textiles and performance in contemporary art.
Published subsequently to the exhibition, this online-only catalogue documents and expands upon the interdisciplinary perspectives and interwoven roles of fabric, fashion and the body investigated and articulated by the artists. The catalogue features essays by Dr Edward Colless (Senior Lecturer in Art at the VCA and editor of Art + Australia) and Dr Tessa Laird (artist, writer, editor of Art + Australia Online and Lecturer in Critical and Theoretical Studies at the VCA), and the exhibition opening address by Amelia Wallin (Director of West Space).
