Vipoo Srivilasa workshop
Inside Out is a year-long program that invites you to shift your experience of the Potter by exploring the artistic opportunities that exist both inside and outside of our galleries.
Soon, we’ll be taking Inside Out to the Mornington Peninsula – because what better way to encourage a true connection with creativity than through art, wine and an idyllic setting. Our intention? To give you the opportunity to engage with art and ideas outside of the usual context of the gallery space.
This spring, you’ll have the chance to celebrate food, wine and art via two unique hands-on workshops held at Montalto in Red Hill. The workshops will begin in Montalto’s Piazza and finish with a relaxed shared lunch, overlooking the estate’s impressive sculpture trail and vines.
Led by artist Vipoo Srivilasa, this workshop uses the selfie as a starting point to create a self-portrait in clay. The workshop begins with participants taking a selfie, capturing both their attitude and personality in one frame. Under Vipoo’s guidance, you will then be asked to remember your selfie and attempt to re-create it in clay. As an extra challenge, you’ll be offered an eye mask (optional) to create your clay selfie by touch, rather than sight; maximising the sense of touch and awareness of the clay texture. The finished bas-relief clay ‘selfies’ will form an installation in the workshop space and can then be taken home. The installation offers a chance to view unique pieces created by the audience.
