Double Double

Part of new dance series curated by Phillip Adams

Our 2019 Inside Out season is all about reimagining the way that you interact with the museum – which is why we’re getting ready to shift our sights to dance.

Starting this June, we will welcome a new series of dance events to the Potter. Curated by choreographer Phillip Adams (founder and Artistic Director of Phillip Adams BalletLab), the series will showcase a range of emerging and established Australian artists as they explore the art of dance in new and unexpected ways.

The first performance in the series is Double Double by celebrated Melbourne-based choreographers and dancers, Jo Lloyd (Chunky Move, Arts House) and Deanne Butterworth (The SUBSTATION, Gertrude Contemporary, NGV Melbourne Now, Dance Massive).

Having performed with some of Australia’s most esteemed choreographers, Butterworth and Lloyd have established themselves as influential experimental dance practitioners, pursuing the form and creating dance in response to a range of contexts.

In Double Double, the pair will be joined by interdisciplinary artists Evelyn Ida Morris and Tina Havelock Stevens – each on drums – in what is described as a generative meeting of four performers, “where formations and seemingly spontaneous compositions emerge out of a physical and sonic mania.”

Says Phillip Adams of the new Potter dance series: “Melbourne loves a wild card, and the proposition to inspire the Museum with bodies afflux with movement and collaboration is the sort of unpredictability we thrive on.”

Details of the full Inside Out dance program will be shared via our EDM and social channels in coming weeks – so stay tuned for more.
