19 Oct 2018

At this talk, guest curators Joel Stern and James Parker provided insights into the research that led to the Eavesdropping project – how the exhibition was conceived and the multitude of local and international artists, musicians, sound technicians, performers and speakers who came together to contribute to this investigation of the politics of listening and being listened to.

Joel Stern is a curator, researcher and sound artist concerned with theories and practices of sound and listening.

James Parker is the director of a research program on law and sound at the Institute for International Law and the Humanities (IILAH), Melbourne Law School, University of Melbourne. His research focuses on the relations between law, sound and listening, with an emphasis on international criminal law, the law of war and privacy.
